Pencil Portrait Drawing Workshop

● Map out accurate facial proportions using simple guidelines before adding detail

● Build realistic shading through graphite blending and layering techniques

● Render key features like eyes, nose, and lips, with attention to form and likeness

● Use light and shadow to sculpt the face and create a sense of depth

● Add finishing touches such as highlights and texture for a polished, expressive portrait

● A4 drawing paper

• Best suited to those who are already comfortable with basic drawing or sketching and want to build on that foundation to improve rendering, shading, and portraiture specifically.

• Age limit: 13 years and above.

• Minimum 4 pax to conduct the workshop.

Mumtaz Maricar is a Singapore-based visual artist and art educator with over 26 years of experience spanning fine art, art direction, and teaching. She holds a Master's in Arts Pedagogy & Practice from Goldsmiths University of London, a BFA in Fine Arts from RMIT University, and a Diploma in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts, the latter two awarded with Distinction.

Her paintings and installations have been shown in numerous group exhibitions across Singapore, including "You, Other; I, Another" at The Private Museum and "1000 Words" at Art Central, and she has lectured on Art History & Theory at LASALLE College of the Arts. Mumtaz paints instinctively across pencil, acrylic, oil, and mixed media, often beginning with a simple observation, memory, or emotion and building the work from there.

She specialises in mentoring students of all levels, from portfolio preparation for prestigious art programmes to guiding hobbyist painters and enjoys helping participants build real technical skill while creating work they're genuinely proud to bring home.
